چکیده

Self-similar progressive image sampling schemes that have been recently proposed for holographic image representations are shown to generate two-dimensional low discrepancy sequences. The discrepancy of a planar set of points is a measure of the uniformity of their placement in the plane. Sequences, or planar sets of points with low discrepancy, cover the image domain as uniformly as possible. VC 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Building 2D Low-Discrepancy Sequences for Hierarchical Importance Sampling Using Dodecagonal Aperiodic Tiling

This paper introduces a new method for building 2D lowdiscrepancy sequences and fast hierarchical importance sampling. Our approach is based on self-similar tiling of the plane with a set of aperiodic tiles having twelve-fold (dedecagonal) rotational symmetry. Sampling points of our low-discrepancy sequence are associated with tiles, one point per tiles. Each tile is recursively subdivided unti...

Automated Three-Dimensional Microbial Sensing and Recognition Using Digital Holography and Statistical Sampling

We overview an approach to providing automated three-dimensional (3D) sensing and recognition of biological micro/nanoorganisms integrating Gabor digital holographic microscopy and statistical sampling methods. For 3D data acquisition of biological specimens, a coherent beam propagates through the specimen and its transversely and longitudinally magnified diffraction pattern observed by the mic...

Spherical Fibonacci Point Sets for Illumination Integrals

Quasi-Monte Carlo (QMC) methods exhibit a faster convergence rate than that of classic Monte Carlo methods. This feature has made QMC prevalent in image synthesis, where it is frequently used for approximating the value of spherical integrals (e.g., illumination integral). The common approach for generating QMC sampling patterns for spherical integration is to resort to unit square low discrepa...

Discrepancy as a Quality Measure for Sample Distributions

Discrepancy, a scalar measure of sample point equidistribution, is discussed in the context of Computer Graphics sampling problems. Several sampling strategies and their discrepancy characteristics are examined. The relationship between image error and the discrepancy of the sampling patterns used to generate the imaqge is established. The de nition of discrepancy is extended to non-uniform sam...
